Grilled Tofu

 Grilled Tofu

(certainly could also be airfried, broiled, etc.)

Ingredients:
  • 1 block firm tofu, cut crosswise into 8 slices, about 1/2 inch thick
  • 2 tbs canola oil, plus more for grill
  • 2 tbs minced garlic
  • 2 tbs minced fresh ginger
  • 1/3 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tbs sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. black pepper
  • 2 tbs sliced scallions
Press:
  •    tofu to remove excess water
In:
  •     small saucepan, combine oil, garlic, and ginger over medium, stirring until softened and fragrant, about 2 minutes.  Add soy sauce, sugar, pepper, and 1/4 water, stirring about 2 minutes at simmer.
Pour:
  • hot marinade over tofu in rimmed dish.  Turn slices evenly to coat, cover with plastic wrap, and let marinate in refrigerator for 6-8 hours, flipping slices carefully about halfway through. 
Heat:
  • grill to medium, grease grates well, and grill tofu slices until browned, about 3 minutes/side.
Reduce:
  • remaining marinade in saucepan, adding sliced scallions.  
Place:
  • grilled tofu on serving dish and garnish with marinade and scallions.
