Frieda's Almond Cookies

Frieda's Almond Cookies

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 tbs milk
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp almond extract
  • sliced almonds for decoration
  • cream butter and sugar until thoroughly blended.  Add 1 egg, milk, and almond extract and mix until just homogenous.  
In separate bowl:
  • stir flour, cream of tartar, and baking soda.  Slowly add to other mixer until well blended.
  • dough into two, approximately even discs, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.  Roll out on floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick.  Cut with circle cookie/biscuit cutter and place on cookie sheet with sliced almond lightly pressed into center.
  • at 350 for 13 minutes or until lightly browned.  Remove to rack for cooling.
  • about 3 dozen cookies.
