Frieda's Ginger Cookies

  • 1/2 lb butter, softened
  • 1 1/8 cups brown sugar, packed
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1 tbs powdered ginger
  • 1 tbs baking soda
  • 5 cups flour
  • granulated sugar
  • butter and sugar until smooth.  Add egg and molasses.  When those are combined, add ginger, baking soda, and flour, which have been sifted together.
  • balls of dough, about the size of a silver dollar.  Rolls balls in granulated sugar and then place on unbuttered cookie sheet, 12 to sheet.  Press down lightly on top of cookie with two fingers.
  • cookies in 375 oven, for about 8 minutes, until cracked on top, but still soft to touch.
